The Conor McGregor Phenomenon – A Tribute to Aldo

The UFC inches toward becoming the WWE, and disrespects a great champion along the way.

While respectful, respectable fighters are sidelined from the spotlights, Conor McGregor is paraded around the world by the UFC. Sure, he’s a talent – albeit a young and relatively untested one. But there’s more to martial arts than just fighting skills.

There’s discipline. There’s respect.

As the UFC morphs itself in a Vince McMahon-like circus, as it becomes less and less distinguishable from the WWE, I’d like to take a moment to express my appreciation for the champions who don’t find the need to cheapen themselves. Those who see this sport as a profession, not a side-show.

Here’s to Jose Aldo – for maintaining his professional demeanor in the face of a disrespectful and inappropriate hooligan. Here’s to Robbie Lawler for standing up to Aldo, and to other heroes such as Carlos Condit, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and others – who are gentlemen in and (mostly) out of the ring.

GSP – I think I understand why you’ve stepped away.

With respect – a loyal fan of a classier UFC.

Miss A Workout? Get Back in the Game

If you’re like me, when you begin a program such as Tapout XT or XT 2 you do so intending to follow it. To complete each day’s workout as it appears on the calendar.

But then…kids, work, illness, injury. What now?

Too many times we view things as all -or-nothing. Take diets for instance. We start a strict diet, but as soon as we break it we fall off completely – telling ourself that we’ll start again soon but sometimes never doing so.

Inertia builds behind both action and stagnation. If you miss a day, two days or a week of your workout don’t be hard on yourself. Don’t stop.

Get back in the game. Pick up where you left off.

XT 2 – Week One Review

Aggressive. Heart-Pounding. Serious. Sweat-Inducing. Brutal. Fantastic. Addictive. Fun. Rewarding. Life-Changing.

What more need be said.

XT 2 Cross Core Combat 2 – Review

On Steroids. The Next Level. Upping The Ante. Serious. Are You Kidding? Drench.

These are the words that best describe Day 1 of Tapout XT 2. The addition of the weighted ball adds a completely new dynamic, one that seems to better isolate muscles.

I’ve completed XT 1 three times. It didn’t make Day 1 of XT2 any easier!

Persistence

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not, unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated failures. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. Calvin Coolidge

XT Round 2 – Upping the Intensity!

I’m in the last 4 weeks of my second round of XT. I can tell you this, it doesn’t get much easier, and I think this is because I’ve increased the intensity of my workout.

Explosions are higher, reps are faster and core is tighter than my first go-round.

I’m feeling great as I finish my second round, but I have to say – Tapout XT 2 looks CRAY! (for those that don’t know, that means crazy in my daughter’s speak).

Have you watched the video trailer for XT 2? If so – what do you think???

It’s Not Who You Are That Holds You Back…

…It’s who you think you’re not.

Accountability

As I mentioned in a recent blog, I am on Round Two of the Tapout XT 90 day program. My first time thru was both a gift and a challenge to myself having just turned 50. Round two is not a solo run.

My buddy is trying Tapout XT for the first time, and we agreed on a recent business trip together that we would hold one another accountable to complete it. Every day we text each other when we’ve completed the day’s workout, this keeps us on calendar. More importantly, we BOTH know that if either of us misses a workout, makes excuses or in anyway fails to ‘man-up’, there will be NO mercy. The teasing, harassment and name calling will commence, and possibly never subside (if you knew my buddy you’d understand!).

So here it is, if you don’t have a COMPELLING reason to stay on track with your program while doing it solo, find someone to do it with you or at least find someone who will keep you accountable.

It makes all the difference in workout consistency and intensity!

Back For More – XT Pt Duex!

I am excited to announce that I am going back for Round 2 with XT.

After I completed it the first time I tried moving to TRX and supplementing that with 2 to 3 XT workouts per week.

It did not go well.

TRX is an amazing tool for travel – especially when I need a quick but hard workout. It began to become routine after 30 days however, and I found myself missing workouts. It is the perfect add-on to a dynamic cardio based program, but for me it did not work as a stand-alone.

A buddy of mine and I are traveling, and we decided to do the Strength and Force + Ab session yesterday. I remember now why I enjoyed the program so much. It is hard as hell, but rewarding and fun. I was drenched in sweat during the workout, and felt invigorated after.

Today I am picking another one to do, but out of sequence. Tomorrow Day 1 of Round Two starts and I can’t wait!

Anyone out there want to join me?
